PAYETTE – The prestigious P.E.O. International Star Scholarship, for the 2019 academic year, will be presented at the Payette High School Senior Class Night to Josaphina Gray, by P. E. O. Chapter C representative and PHS faculty member, Angie Spelman.

Josie is the daughter of Elisa Massoth Gray and David Gray and the granddaughter of Marsha and Gene Gray. She is active in volleyball and golf, a leader in several clubs, spent two years in a CNA program, spent a year in a welding program, and still manages to have a job. She has been in a class leadership position every year and this year is the student body vice president. She started a W82TXT program at the high school, to raise awareness of the danger of texting while driving. She is certified in CPR and as a Lifeguard, and is Babysitter certified. She received the Kumon Proficiency in Mathematics award in 2015 and has taken dual credit classes every year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and has received the Academic Parade of Champions Award all 13 years of school. Gray will attend University of Idaho beginning this fall.

The STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 international scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics, and potential for future success. A young woman must be recommended by a local P. E. O. Chapter. Josie was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter C, Payette.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood was founded in 1869. It is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes educational opportunities for women. There are approximately 6,000 local chapters in the U. S. and Canada with more than 350,000 members. P. E. O. has given nearly $190 million in financial assistance to more than 80,000 women. The organization also owns Cottey College, a liberal arts college in Nevada, Missouri.
