Finding veterans' tombstones

Every year, just before Memorial Day, a sea of American Flags stand tall at Evergreen Cemetery and Sunset Cemetery in honor of veterans who have died. The flags are placed on tombstones by members of the American Legion Post 67, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. The tombstones are often marked with a sticker, which indicates a veteran status. In this picture, Betty Morrison walks alongside her husband, Dave, as they check each tombstone one by one with the intent to locate all the veterans buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Saturday.

ONTARIO — In conjunction with the American Legion’s 100 years of service in March, the American Legion Ontario Post 67 will begin a monthly car wash and vacuum service for veterans and their families.

The American Legion, as well as the Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion, will be posted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Ontario Auto Brokers, at 1723 S.W. Fourth Ave.
