New Plymouth 45 at Homedale 39

The Pilgrims opened their 2019-2020 season with a big win over a 3A opponent.

Derek Hampton led New Plymouth with 18 points and seven rebounds. Kobe Roberts had 13 rebounds and eight points.

Matt Hall had six points and three blocks.

The Pilgrims (1-0) will host Ontario on Saturday.

Melba 58, Weiser 48

Ande Jensen led the Wolverines with 16 points, including making four of five three-pointers. Brett Spencer scored 12 points.

The Wolverines struggled at the free throw line, making just eight of 20 free throws. Melba made 14 of 18 free throws.

The Wolverines (0-2) will host Ontario on Thursday.

Girls basketball

Melba 51 at Fruitland 38

Against the 2A powerhouse Melba, Fruitland allowed the Mustangs to gain some momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Grizzlies 15 to eight.

The Grizzlies spread the scoring out against the Mustangs. Abby Smith scored seven points. Abbi Roubidoux and Hailey Hershey each scored six points. Madi Fritts and Grace Johnson each scored five points.

The Grizzlies (1-3) will play at South Fremont on Friday.

New Plymouth 40 at Weiser 29

The Pilgrims started hot on Tuesday, outscoring the Wolverines 14 to two in the opening quarter of play.

Alyssa Christensen scored 16 points for New Plymouth.

Maddy Erickson led the Wolverines with 12 points.

The Pilgrims (4-1) will host Homedale on Thursday. The Wolverines (0-5) will host Vale on Tuesday.

Nampa Christian 64, Payette 22

The Pirates (2-3) will play at McCall on Thursday.
