Ontario’s Katie Adams signs with Owls

ONTARIO — One of Ontario’s top track athletes will be heading to college next year, as thrower Katie Adams signed her letter of intent to join the track and field team at Oregon Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon.

Adams’ personal best of 116 feet, two inches in the discus in third-best in Ontario High School history. Her record of 33 feet, 6.5 inches in the shot put is fourth-best in school history.

Through three years of high school track, Adams has competed at the state championships every year. As a freshman, she took first at the Greater Oregon League Championship in both shot put and discus before taking 10th in discus and 11th in shot put at the state championship.

For her sophomore year, Adams finished first at the GOL Championship in shot put and discus before taking ninth in discus and 13th in shot put at state. As a junior, Adams took first in discus and second in shot put at the GOL championship, then placed sixth in discus and 11th in shot put at state.
