FRUITLAND — On Oct. 7, the Wolverines men’s soccer team traveled to Fruitland Middle School to compete against the Grizzlies in a Snake River Valley conference matchup. Additionally, the Grizzlies acknowledged their senior athlete for his time, commitment, and dedication to the Grizzlies’ soccer program, during the senior night presentation prior to the game.
The Grizzlies only have one senior on the team, being a young team composed mostly of freshman and sophomores. Fruitland senior Christian Villalvazo was acknowledged by his team, friends, family, and supporters during the senior night presentation where the athlete was presented with various gifts and mementos.
In the end, the Wolverines managed to win the game, 8-1, solidifying Weiser as the number one seeded team going into the district tournament. For the Grizzlies, they had to compete against the Payette Pirates in the first game of the district tournament, where they happened to lose the game, 5-2.
Fruitland’s game versus the Pirates marked the Grizzlies final game of the season, due to the district tournament being a single elimination tournament. As the season ends, the Grizzlies soccer program will shift its focus towards polishing their skills for the next season.
