The council wants to raise the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on privately owned motel guests by 1% (up from 9% to 10%). They also want to change the City Charter so you will need to vote for any proposed sales tax in Ontario.

We voted down the sales tax for Ontario without a change to the charter. The City Council wants us to raise a tax on private business by 1%, which the city would benefit from financially. Perhaps we don’t need either one?

This is really a rouse to change the charter to gain power over the City Manager and benefit the coffers of the City.

Past City Councilor, Ontario
