Phillip “Phil” A. Mendiguren, 69, of Roseburg and formerly of La Grande, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019, at his residence. A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
Phil was born on January 25, 1950 in Ontario, Oregon to John and Serafina (Uberuaga) Mendiguren. He resided in Ontario, OR; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; La Grande, OR; and Roseburg, OR. He graduated from Ontario High School, class of 1968 and then University of Oregon, class of 1972. Phil was drafted by the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1972-1974. Phil and Delores (Shelby) were married in 1974. He graduated from Gonzaga University Law School, class of 1978.
Phil was an attorney with Gooding & Mendiguren Attorneys at Law; Carey, Joseph & Mendiguren Attorneys at Law; and was a Circuit Court Judge for Union and Wallowa Counties. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, billiards, and watching U of O sports. He belonged to the Optimists, Elks, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, U of O Alumni Association Delta Tau Delta.
Phil is survived by his wife, Delores; children, Shelby Shaw (Loren) of Roseburg, OR, Julia Mendiguren of Eugene, OR, Nicholas Mendiguren (Amanda) of La Grande, OR and Andrew Mendiguren (Sarah) of Wenatchee, WA; sister, Faye Sadowsky (Don) of Eugene, OR; brothers, Jim Mendiguren (Theresa) of Boise, ID and Tom Mendiguren (Debi) of Payette, ID; 4 grandchildren, Echo Mendiguren, Natalie Shaw, Charlotte Rieke, and Harlee Mendiguren; aunt, Julia Uberuaga Coleman; sister-in-law, Gloria Herd. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Serafina; brother, John Michael Mendiguren and uncle, Joe P. Uberuaga.
