VALE

Paul Gleichman of Vale Oregon passed away in Vale Oregon on June 14th, 2019. Paul was born in Gary, Indiana to William Gleichman and Anna Peters. The youngest of three children.

Paul joined the Navy at age 17 serving his country as a Naval Aviation Ordanceman during World War II from 1942 to 1946. Paul later continued on to serve his country as a sergeant in the Army Reserve from 1948 to 1951.

Paul met the love of his life, Joan Maisie Haw during that time and married her March 25th, 1950. They went on to raise their 3 children and two stepchildren in southern California.

Paul worked on Catalina Island as a commercial fisherman.

Later as a mechanic at California’s White mountain research station, eventually moving to Vale Oregon where he worked for Malheur County as a mechanic for many years till he retired.

Paul was very proud of his 40 acre ranch he purchased outside of Vale, that was just sagebrush when he bought it. Paul worked very hard preparing the land to grow hay and loved working outdoors.

Paul could fix anything that needed fixing, whether it was a truck engine, automobile, air conditioner, well pump, washing machine or pretty much anything else. He seemed to be able to figure out how to get it working just fine again.

Paul loved fishing anywhere or any time he could on the Owyhee River and reservoir with his family and friends.

Paul was devoted to helping stray, lost, injured and abandoned cats, dogs and other animals. Often paying to get them spayed, neutered and paying needed medical bills when they were injured. He adopted many of these cats and dogs through the years and tried to find homes for others. It really upset him to see people not taking care of their animals. He loved his dog Sheila and his cats: Bobby, Baby Girl and Simon.

Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan, older brother Bill, sister Barbara, son Don, daughters Laura and Donna, grandson Joshua and great-grandson Keith.

In Paul’s later years, he enjoyed having breakfast every morning at the Starlight Restaurant in Vale, dancing with the ladies at the senior centers and making new friends.

Paul is survived by his daughter Paula, son David, nephews Richard and Bill, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter Kamille.

Paul would appreciate any remembrances to go to:
