VALE — Two local men are being held in the Malheur County Jail on charges related to theft of wire from a Vale Business.
Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe said he had received a report from the business that someone had been stealing wire from them for over a couple of weeks, starting on July 29. The wire was taken from a recycle bin and had limited value, he added.
Through the use of video from surveillance cameras, police were able to track down two suspects who were arrested in Ontario, he said.
Both Nickolas Ribera, of Ontario, and Leroy Robinson, of Fruitland, are being held on charges of theft in the second degree and trespassing in the first degree, Wolfe said, and Ribera is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Wolf said there has been an increase of wire theft, including one business had lost five roles of wire, where the thief or thieves has used a forklift to move the rolls.
