  1. During today’s work session, Ontario City Council members will be discussing raising water and sewer rates. The proposed increase is 1.9 percent, and is based on the Portland Consumer Price Index, according to the agenda for the work session. The city began basing its utility charge increases on the Portland CPI after 2016.
  2. D-Day anniversary: World leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, and veterans of the invasion are gathering in Normandy to honor those to died during the historic event 75 years ago which began the liberation of Europe from the Nazis. According to a history of the event on Army Military Features, “On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.”
  3. The last live broadcast of the Ed Sullivan Show was on this day in 1971. According to information on Wikepedia, the show was an American television variety show that ran on CBS from June 20, 1948, to June 6, 1971. According to History.com, the show was a showcase for entertainers of all stripes, some of the best known artists, such as Elvis Pressly, and the Beatles, who made their debut on American television while appearing in 1964.
