Recreational vehicle
  1. Fewer than 24 hours remain until Malheur County Court considers an emergency declaration to ban use of recreational vehicles as a permanent residence anywhere in the county outside of established RV parks. The matter is on the agenda for this week’s meeting, with the hearing slated for 11 a.m. in the County Court chambers at Malheur County Circuit Court.
  2. Steven Spielberg’s mega-hit sci-fi PG-rated film, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, which launched actress Drew Barrymoore’s career, was released on this day in 1982. The movie was a hit, grossing $360 million in it’s initial 3-year run. It was re-released in 1985, grossing another $40.6 million, and made nearly as much on it’s 20th anniversary release in 2002. Having been nominated for nine Oscars in 1982, having won four of them, including for its score, written by John Williams.
  3. On this day in history in 1963, John F. Kennedy delivered a Civil Rights message to Congress, in which he declared segregation as a “moral crisis” for both the country and its citizens.
