2 On this day in 2008, the world’s most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, located underground between France and Switzerland, conducted its first test operation, according to Britannica. The machine is said to be the largest in the world, and could create microscopic black holes, according to NASAA.

3 Meow meow! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic music “Cats” closed on this day in 2000 after a record-setting 7,485 performances. The show was the longest running in Broadway history until it was surpassed by another Andrew Lloyd Webber show, “The Phantom of the Opera” in 2006, according to Britannica.
