2 The world’s last known passenger pigeon died in the Cincinnati (Ohio) Zoo in 1914, according to Britannica. The bird was hunted to extinction throughout the 1800s. The eastern United States served as the main habitat for this migratory bird.

3 The number one song on this day in 1979 was “My Sharona” by The Knack. The song was number 1 for six weeks and continues to get stuck in people’s heads to this very day.
