  2. On this day in 48 BC, Julius Caesar and his troops defeated the army of Pompey at the Battle of Pharsalus. This defeat was the cause of Pompey retreating to Egypt where he was later killed, according to Britannica.
  3. Also on this day in 1995, the world paid its respects and said goodbye to Jerry Garcia. The mellow leader of the classic rock band, The Grateful Dead, passed away. He left behind a long legacy of music, an ice cream flavor and many fans (also known as Deadheads), according to Britannica.
