  4. *On this day in history* Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman to be sworn in to the United States Supreme Court on this day in 1981 by then President Ronald Reagan, according to information on the Oyez website. She was the swing vote that reaffirmed Roe v. Wade in 1992 when the court decided on the abortion rights case Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Oyez states. She served on the court until she retired in 2006.
