VALE — Differently-abled students from all over the area will take to the court and share a love of basketball on March 16 as the 2020 Support the Court game will be held at Vale Middle School.

As of Friday, students from Vale, Nyssa, North Powder and Ontario are scheduled to participate in the 2020 Support the Court game. The game will feature teams made of differently-abled players and “unified athletes”, which are normally-abled students who are on the court and help facilitate the game.

Support the Court is put together by Nancy Menges, who based the event on the Pack the Gym night that have taken off in the Seattle area. Menges’ son, Michael, was both with Down syndrome and graduated from Ontario High School in the spring and was active on the basketball team during his time with the Tigers.

The Menges family moved to Ontario from Seattle (Nancy Menges is originally from Nyssa). While in Seattle, Menges said there were many opportunities for Special Olympics events similar to Support the Court. Amelia Menges, Nancy Menges’ daughter, is the junior varsity basketball coach at Ontario High School.
