VALE — A plea hearing for a Fruitland man accused of a shooting death that occurred Nov. 18 outside of an Ontario restaurant has been delayed until April 5.
Jaime Anthony Escobedo, 41, was originally slated to enter a plea on Dec. 28, however that date was setover to Wednesday. During that plea hearing it was again held for April after a motion to continue was granted by judge Erin Landis.
Escobedo was arraigned in Malheur County on Nov. 23 on felony charges of murder and attempt to elude, following his transfer here from Payette County, where he was arrested after allegedly fleeing the shooting.
Escobedo is accused of the shooting death of Larry James Fuentes, 38, of Portland. If convicted of murder, he would face a mandatory minimum of 25 years to life.
The shooting occurred the morning of Nov. 18, in the parking lot of Los Patrillos restaurant.
Ontario Police officers were called to the eatery regarding a dispute between two men. As they were responding, officers were informed the dispute had escalated into a shooting.
