ONTARIO — Officials say nobaody was injured when a 34-year-old man running from the police also fired shots near them by the Malheur County fairgrounds on Saturday. However, a man is facing several charges in relation to the event.
According to a news release Monday morning from Malheur County District Attorney David Goldthorpe, police were attempting to make a traffic stop near the fairgrounds when an armed man immediately fled the vehicle and ran toward a nearby apartment complex.
The man was later identified as Clemente Bobby Pineda.
“The officer gave chase and shots were fired,” according to the release, which further states neither Pineda nor the officer were struck. Pineda was then taken into custody.
Pineda faces charges from the District Attorney, including unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, menacing and reckless endangering.
Those charges will be presented to the Malheur County Grand Jury for consideration later this week.
