ONTARIO — An Emmett man is recovering in a Boise hospital following a shooting accident along the Snake River near Ontario on the morning of New Year’s Day. He is in fair condition.
Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe said, Cody Shipman, 24, of Emmett, was part of a party duck hunting along the river,
and had been dropped off with a 15-year-old juvenile, also of Emmett, on a bank about four miles south of Ontario.
The teen had fallen backwards while shooting ducks and his waders were filling up with water, Wolfe said. In an attempt to help, Shipman reached for the teen’s gun to take it before helping him up. The gun discharged and Shipman was hit in the arm and shoulder, Wolfe said.
The teen called his father who was setting out decoys and who picked the pair up, and emergency responders met them at the boat ramp at Ontario State Park, Wolfe said.
