ONTARIO — One of the biggest names in the cannabis industry will be in Ontario on Saturday to help welcome Ontario’s newest recreational marijuana dispensary, Hotbox Farms.
The dispensary’s co-owner Steven Meland confirmed in a phone interview this morning that famous rapper and actor Snoop Dogg will be putting on a free concert for the shop’s grand opening on Saturday.
The store, located on the northeast corner of town by the Oregon Bottle Drop, opened at 7 a.m. this morning for a soft opening, Meland said.
In addition to Snoop Dogg, Hotbox friend Jim Belushi will be back in town, too, and Meland said there is still one more appearance that has yet to be announced.
How did they sync up with the famous star that Martha Stewart guest stars on a cooking show with?
“We were able to reach out to some of our friends in the industry and we had the pleasure of meeting him at another event,” Meland said. “And we were just able to link that all together and get him to come support us at the industry opening [in Ontario].”
The rapper has supported the cannabis industry for a long time “even before it was on the up and up and in the mainstream,” Meland said.
“Who better [to come to the grand opening] than someone that resonates with everyone,” Meland asked.
Like Belushi, Meland said, Snoop Dogg speaks to all demographics.
And, because the concert will be held on a dirt lot behind the Ontario Bottle Drop, which is next door to the dispensary, it will be open to all ages.
The grand opening at Hotbox is from 4 to 10 p.m., Meland said, and Snoop’s portion comes near the end, where he’ll perform an hour DJ set and five songs.
“We’re celebrating the fact that we’re finally in Ontario,” the dispensary’s co-owner said.
Meland said the name coined for the block party event, which will culminate in a fireworks show twice the size of the city’s Fourth of July show, is, “Ontario Oregon, HIGH, How are ya?”
