VALE — A trail for a Fruitland man accused of a shooting death that took place in November has been scheduled following a plea hearing on Tuesday morning.
In front of Judge Lung Hung, Jaime Anthony Escobedo, who was 41 at the time of the shooting, pleaded not guilty to murder and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, both felonies. A five-day, 12-person jury trial has been scheduled for June 22, 2020 with a status hearing on March 11.
The plea hearing was originally slated for Dec. 28, 2018, but had been setback multiple times.
Escobedo is accused of the shooting death of Larry James Fuentes, 38, of Portland. If convicted of murder, he would face a mandatory minimum of 25 years to life.
The shooting occurred the morning of Nov. 18, in the parking lot of Los Patrillos restaurant.
Ontario Police officers were called to the eatery regarding a dispute between two men. As they were responding, officers learned a man was shot.
