Freedom fiesta: Cultural Center lauds Mexican Independence Day

The Consulate of Mexico, of Boise, delivers a speech during a past Mexican Independence Day festival at Four Rivers Cultural Center.

ONTARIO — Where can one celebrate Mexico’s independence from Spanish rule and get to do face painting, play with piñatas, listen to mariachis and engage in arts and crafts — all for free?

The answer is El Grito, the Mexican fiesta traditionally celebrated on the 16th of September each year.

The Four Rivers Cultural Center is presenting its seventh annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration on Sunday in the foyer of the center.

This event has grown into a local tradition over these past seven years and a big turn-out is expected again this year.

If you go

The seventh annual Mexican Independence Day will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario.
