Elk’s Lodge opens up reservations for annual fishing trip for veterans

Volunteers get busy in the Elks Lodge kitchen before the banquet, which was served at the end of the day during the 2017 Elk’s Veterans Fishing Trip. Event founder Rudy Marostica said the event now draws about 40 veterans per year, having more than doubled since its inception seven years ago.

ONTARIO — Reservations are now being accepted for this year’s annual Elk’s Veterans Fishing Trip.

Sponsored by Ontario Elks Lodge, the trip is geared toward local veterans — and for those who don’t like fishing, there is a banquet later that day, which veterans are encouraged to attend with a guest of their choice.

This year’s trip will be June 22 at Brownlee Reservoir, and attendees will meet at the Elks Lodge at 8 a.m. with boat owners and drivers.

Except for an Oregon or Idaho fishing license, which veterans must bring, all necessary items for the day trip, including fishing equipment, lunch, beverages and transportation to and from the lodge, are furnished for the event.

Fishing will wrap up at 3 p.m., at which time attendees will travel back to Ontario for the banquet which begins at 6 p.m.

To sign up for the fishing trip, stop by Veteran Advocates of Ore-Ida at 180 W. Idaho Ave., or the Elk’s Lodge at 20 S.W. Third St.
