HUNTINGTON — The Pole Fire, 10 miles north of Huntington, has managed to burn approximately 675 acres to date. The High Desert Type 3 Incident Management Team has brought the blaze into 75% containment as of Friday afternoon. An update from Alan Crouch, Vale Bureau of Land Management public information officer, states that by the end of Friday’s shift, the Pole Fire is expected to be contained. This blaze was started by lightning on Monday.
On Thursday, two engines were dispatched to the Blue Mountain Fire, which also started from lightning strikes. The fire consumed 18.5 acres 25 miles north of McDermitt before crews brought it under control. As of Friday afternoon this fire is 100% contained.
Assisting in fire suppression effort for the Pole Fire was the Burnt River Rangeland Fire Protection Association. The Blue Mountain Fire received additional suppression support from Blue Mountain RFPA.
