ADRIAN — On Oct. 12, the Adrian School Board at its regular meeting voted to approve a contract to purchase a Ford Transit 150 van for $63,876 for the purposes of transporting disabled students to school.
The contract is with Schetky Bus and Van Sales in Pasco, Washington.
The van can seat 10, including the driver.
The eight seats in the back of the van can be folded back and hold two wheelchair passengers.
Interim Superintendent and Malheur Education Service District Superintendent Mark Redmond told the board that the district was eligible for a High-Cost Disability Grant from the state of Oregon, which would cover the first $30,000 of the purchase.
After a short discussion among board members, a vote to approve the contract took place, which all voted in yes.
The item came before the board after a staff member observed a young student being lifted from the passenger seat of a pickup into his wheelchair when the student arrived at school.
The district will have the van by December, Redmond told the paper.
