It was a year of growing pains for the Fruitland football team. The Grizzlies finished the season with a 5-6 record and made it to the state quarterfinals after upsetting Kimberly in the first round.
The Grizzlies were led in all-SRV honors by Zack Ziegler, who was named to the all-league first team as both a running back and a linebacker. Weston Jeffries was also named to the first team as an offensive and defensive lineman.
Marcus Barinaga was given first team honors as a defensive back, he was a second team selection at running back.
Lineman Greg Gissel was a second team selection on defense. Jake Walker was a second team selection at linebacker.
Joe Hengelen (quarterback), Dylan Stelling (running back and defensive back), Josh Henggeler (receiver and defensive back), Mark Church (offensive lineman), Aden Simmons (offensive lineman), Sid McHenry (offensive and defensive lineman), Austin Smith (kicker) and Braxton Quintero (punter) were all honorable mentions.
After being unable to finish the 2018 season due to low numbers, the Payette football team bounced back and completed the 2019 season with a 1-8 record.
Dean Rodriguez (running back), Blake Garcia (receiver), Gabe Ramos (tight end), Joe Carl (offensive lineman), Ulysses Valdez (linebacker) and Tyus Husky (defensive back) were all honorable mentions for the all-SRV teams.
The SRV’s Offensive Player of the Year was Homedale quarterback Daniel Uranga. The Defensive Player of the Year was Homedale’s Spencer Fisher. The Special Teams Player of the Year was Homedale’s Nelson Lamelli and the Coach of the Year was Homedale’s Matt Holtry.
