The Fruitland tennis team is sending another girl to college as Lizzy Starr signed her letter of intent to join Treasure Valley Community College’s tennis team on Wednesday afternoon.
Starr said the proximity to home was a big factor for her joining the Chukars.
“I wanted to stay close to home,” Starr said. “And I thought it would be fun to continue to play tennis.”
Another major part of joining TVCC for Starr is getting to play tennis with Claire Farmer, a Fruitland senior who also signed to play tennis at TVCC last month.
“I’m really excited to play with Claire some more,” she said.
Despite the Chukars’ roster being mostly made of local athletes, Starr said Farmer will be the only player she knows on the roster. But Starr said she’s excited to meet her new teammates.
For the Grizzlies, Starr was the No. 3 spot for girls singles as a senior. She switched to singles early in her junior season after previously playing girls doubles with Betsie Barlow.
“I’m definitely excited for the bigger challenge, in doing doubles and singles,” she said.
Starr said she doesn’t know what she wants to study yet. Currently, she said she might look to the medical field to become a labor/delivery nurse, but that might change.
