Errors plagued the Payette baseball team in a tough 8-2 loss at Weiser on April 3.
The Pirates were able to get the first jab in, with a sacrifice hit by Ewan Anderson scoring Kodee Bennett. But it was all Weiser from there. Brody von Brethorst, Tyler Pope and Ray Calley each had RBI hits in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead.
The Wolverines scored two more on errors in the bottom of the third inning. Jayden Mink had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Wolverines sealed the deal with Logan Wood scoring on an error and Kooper von Brethorst being forced home on a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Payette’s Bryce Marshall had one of the highlight offensive plays of the day with a big solo home run over left center field in the top of the fifth inning.
The Pirates were led by Marshall’s two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Deano Rodriguez also had two hits. The Pirates twice had the bases loaded with one out and failed to score.
Bennett pitched the first 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, two walks and struck out four. Anderson came in during the sixth inning, allowing one hit and walking two while not recording an out. Bryce Marshall came in for the final out, allowing no hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Wood led the Wolverines on offense Wednesday. He had two hits and three runs scored. Brody von Brethorst, Tyler Pope and Nate McDaniel each had two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
The Pirates (4-9, 1-2 SRV) have a big stretch coming up in terms of league games. Payette will host Parma on Friday and will play at Fruitland on April 15. Wins in both could potentially hop the Pirates up to the No. 2 spot in the SRV.
