Payette alumna claims honors at indoor nationals

Central Washington’s HarLee Ortega competes in the hurdles at the Sam Adams Classic on March 22. Ortega recently competed in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships and brought home all-American honors in the pentathlon.

Payette alumna HarLee Ortega, closed her final indoor season with some hardware, as the Central Washington University pentathlete took second in the pentathlon high jump to give her a seventh-place finish in the women’s pentathlon at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 9 in Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Ortega finished with a high jump of 1.65 meters.

Ortega’s long jump was 5.48, which gave her a sixth-place finish in that event.

Ortega finished ninth in the women’s pentathlon 800-meter race, finishing in two minutes, 23.49 seconds. She was 12th in the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.27 seconds. Her shot put of 10.42 meters gave her a 10th-place finish.

Central Washington finished 53rd as a team with two team points. Adams State finished first with 87 points.

The Wildcats won’t be competing in any events in the Treasure Valley this spring. But they will be competing in the Boxer Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove on Saturday. They will also be in Spokane on April 5 and May 4. The Greater Northwest Athletic Conference Championships will be at Western Oregon University in Monmouth on May 10 and May 11.
