Under Armour, Inc. announced the addition of Joey Martarano to the roster for the 2012 Under Armour® All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory.
The game will be played at Wrigley Field at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and air live nationally on MLB Network.
The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game showcases 36 of the best high school players, competing in an American versus National team match-up. The players are selected by a committee of Baseball Factory scouts.
Martarano is one of the top multi-sport athletes in the country. He is a big, physical third baseman with surprising quickness, sure hands and a strong arm.
At the plate, he is a middle-of-the-order run producer with legitimate power. In addition to his outstanding baseball tools, he is an All-State performer on the football field as a quarterback and linebacker.
He has committed to play college football at Boise State.
“Strong multi-sport athletes have been a staple in the Under Armour All-America Game and this year Joey brings his All-State football talent to the game,” Steve Bernhardt, Chairman of the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Committee & Executive VP of Baseball Operations at Baseball Factory said. “On the baseball field he’s a strong third-baseman with legitimate power at the plate. We look forward to watching Joey’s power on display at Wrigley Field.
The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game is the culmination of a four-day baseball celebration, including a formal workout for Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts and a homerun derby.
Seven players who participated in last year’s Under Armour All-America Game were recently selected in the first round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, including the No. 2 overall pick, outfielder Byron Buxton.
The remaining six 2011 UA All-America Game players were selected top 30 in this year’s draft, including Gavin Cecchini (No. 12 Overall Pick, New York Mets); Nick Travieso (No. 14 Overall Pick, Cincinnati Reds); Stryker Trahan (No.26 Overall Pick, Arizona Diamondbacks); Clinton Coulter (No.27 Overall Pick, Milwaukee Brewers); Lewis Brinson (No. 29 Overall Pick, Texas Rangers); and Ty Hensley (No.30 Overall Pick, New York Yankees).
