The Fruitland softball team picked up a much-needed first district win Monday with a dominant 13-1, five-inning performance over Parma.
Catcher Taylor Bushong continued her strong freshman campaign, with two hits against the Panthers. Brigit Futter had just one hit, but brought home three on a big double.
Bailey Stowe started in the circle for the Grizzlies. In five innings, she struck out six batters.
The Grizzlies are now 5-5 and 1-1 in Snake River Valley play, putting them in third place (Payette is in second at 1-1 with the tiebreaker over Fruitland).
On the boys’ field, the Grizzlies followed up an impressive 4-0 performance at the Bucks Bags Tournament with a tough 8-7 loss to Parma.
The Grizzlies started hot against the Panthers, scoring four runs in the first two innings. But Fruitland’s bats fell cold late in the game as the Panthers scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and one more in the top of the sixth to take the lead. Fruitland was unable to answer in the later three innings.
Keith Adams had two RBIs for Fruitland.
Nick Nunez pitched 3.2 innings, striking out three. Kade Kurata pitched 3.1 innings, striking out three.
The Grizzlies committed three errors.
The loss drops the Grizzlies to 7-6 and 0-2 in the SRV, which puts them in last place.
