After a long and fruitful life, Cecil Ray Shurtleff, of Payette, age 99 passed away on June 20, 2019 at The Cottages in Payette, Idaho. Services will be held at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette on Wednesday June 26, 2019. A viewing will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Services will conclude with interment at Riverside Cemetery.
Cecil was born on May 28, 1920 on the family fruit ranch in Payette, Idaho to Raymond and Esther (Purcell) Shurtleff. He attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse north of Payette and graduated from Payette High School in 1937. Cecil married Cathleen “Kay” Harland of Payette on June 16, 1940. Together they raised three children and carried on the family tradition of fruit growing.
Cecil was a leader in the fruit growing industry, serving on many boards and committees. He is especially known for his service and leadership in Idaho’s water supply.
Cecil loved Kay, baseball, big band music, BSU football and telling funny family stories.
He is survived by his Daughter, Shawna (Gary) Forsdick of Boise; Son, Ronald (Jo) Shurtleff of Payette; Son in Law, Richard Young of Boise; Grandchildren, Craig (Sheri) Forsdick, Sheri (Bob) Bamrick, Sidni (Gary) Mordhorst, Adrianne (Brant) Meckel; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Cathleen “Kay” Shurtleff; his daughter, Cheryl Shurtleff-Young; his three sisters, and his parents.
