After seeing someone jump off the overpass in Payette on Tuesday afternoon, a passerby flagged down a code enforcement officer for help. While that officer went to the overpass to check it out, another citizen called in to report the incident.
The overpass is on Northwest Seventh Street over railroad tracks.
According to Payette Police Chief John Plaza, officers then responded.
The chief said he was told the person who jumped was a 15-year-old youth who “had skipped school and was mad at his grandmother.”
The youth had leg injuries, according to Plaza, and after being stabilized by officers on scene, he was flown to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario for treatment.
The youth’s condition is currently unknown.
