Students tell about Girls State

Payette High School seniors Grace Hanigan, left, and Josafina Gray appear Monday night before the Payette City Council to talk about Hanigan and Gray’s beneficial experiences attending last year’s Girls State in Nampa. “I learned more about local and state government in one week than I could ever imagine,” Gray said. Standing behind the pair is Gary Duff, commander of Payette American Legion Post 33, a sponsor organization for local students to attend Boys State and Girls State. The City Council approved a donation of $1,000 to help meet the costs for sending students this year, and Councilor Vonnie Paul said she would add a personal donation of $500. Duff said three boys and two girls are currently signed up to participate in the program for this year.
