NEW PLYMOUTH — Idaho State Police is investigating a four-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Oct. 31 at 3:53 p.m., on Interstate 84 at milepost 12.5, near New Plymouth.
A 79-year-old woman from Council was traveling east on Interstate 84 in a 2018 Ford Explorer when she crossed the median into the westbound lanes. A 35-year-old man from Portland was driving a 2013 Nissan Sentra, and a 38-year-old man from Spokane, Washington was driving a 2019 Honda Pilot, both traveling west. The Nissan and Honda swerved to avoid colliding with the Ford and the Honda rear-ended the Nissan.
The Ford continued traveling the wrong direction for one mile and struck a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage head on, which was traveling westbound, driven by a 25-year-old woman from Parma. She died fromo her injuries at the scene of the crash.
The 79-year-old woman was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital.
All drivers involved were wearing their seatbelts. The roadway was blocked for approximately 3 hours.
