A Fruitland man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday morning to charges related to a shooting death in November of 2018.
Jaime Anthony Escobedo, who was 41 at the time of the shooting, entered his plea in front of Malheur County Judge Lung Hung.
As such, a five-day jury trial has been slated for for June 22, 2020.
Escobedo pleaded not guilty to murder and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, both felonies. A status hearing has been slated on March 11.
The plea hearing was originally slated for Dec. 28, 2018, but had been setback multiple times.
Escobedo is accused of the shooting death of Larry James Fuentes, 38, of Portland. If convicted of murder, he would face a mandatory minimum of 25 years to life.
The shooting occurred the morning of Nov. 18, 2018, in the parking lot of Los Patrillos restaurant.
Ontario Police officers were called to the eatery regarding a dispute between two men. As they were responding, officers were informed the dispute had escalated into a shooting.
