Individuals who wish to run for open seats on city councils throughout Payette County have until next week to file a Declaration of Candidacy.

The candidate filing period is open through 5 p.m. on Sept. 6. for the Payette, Fruitland and New Plymouth city councils, which all have openings for the upcoming General Election on Nov. 5.

In Payette, there are three city council seats open with four-year terms, and one seat open for a two-year term.

In Fruitland, there are two seats open to serve as a city councilor; each is a four-year term.

In New Plymouth, there are currently three seats open, each is a four-year term. The mayor’s seat is up for election as well as two seats on the city council.

In order to become a candidate, a citizen must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, a resident within their respective city for at least 30 days, and the address of their voter registration must match the residential address provided on the declaration form.

A Declaration of Candidacy must be accompanied by a $40 filing fee or a petition of candidacy signed by at least five qualified city electors with signatures verified by the city clerk’s office. Signatures must be verified prior to filing with respective city offices.

Declarations of Candidacy are available at the city hall of each city.
