A year of progress at VFW Hall site

January 22 marked the one-year anniversary of the snowfall-induced collapse of the Joe’s Club building, a once iconic landmark on South Main Street in downtown Payette. The property has since been purchased by VFW Payette Valley Post 2738, Inc.

Architects and builders are at the table and plans are underway for a VFW Hall and Community Center. Plans call for the center to offer seating for 200 or more people for large events. It should also include a commercial kitchen, meeting rooms for veterans and a high-tech museum, highlighting veterans from Payette County.

The VFW in Payette was chartered in 1932. It was housed in the Old Legion Hall quonset hut building that was situated where Albertsons is today. The Post currently has 335 members from throughout the United States. The non-profit is accepting mailed donations to fulfill this mission at 318 S. Main St., Payette, ID 83661 or via Pay Pal at Facebook page, “VFW Post 2738 Building Project.”
