FRUITLAND - Those of our readers lucky enough to have been around at the time may have shared many a story with their next of kin about spending time with friends and family at a local soda fountain. Today, such are rare to find but one will soon be found again.
The Prescription Pad in Fruitland is in the process of adding a soda fountain to its new location. According to Annie Knudsen, Operations & Outreach Specialist at the Prescription Pad, the decision to add a soda fountain is meant to reflect the pharmacy’s history in the community.
“Our pharmacy has been locally owned and operated for over a century,” said Knudsen via email on Jan. 29. “Even though we pride ourselves on using the latest and greatest technology and methods to serve our customers, we also honor the values of our community and want to include some of the old fashion touches of that great ‘neighborhood drug store’ feel including, an old fashioned soda shoppe.”
Knudsen said that while it’ll be inside the Prescription Pad, the soda fountain will have its own name and be its own business.
“Our partner is a community member that everyone knows and loves!”
Who that is, Knudsen said, will be revealed closer to the grand opening.
On the menu will be old fashioned ice cream sodas, as well as sundaes, banana splits and several hot foods, according to Knudsen. She also said the ‘soda jerk’ is coming back.
Construction did see some delays, but Knudsen said this simply meant everyone had to coordinate their schedules more closely.
“The construction industry is booming!” said Knudsen. “Everyone is so busy [our current] timeline just worked better because we are dedicated to offering the best experience, products, and services to our customers.”
Knudsen said a grand opening event is in the works, with free samples and fun for the community.
“We are looking forward to this opportunity to introduce the community to our new location and services. We are still currently looking at the right date for this event but it will be soon!”
