ODOT: Commercial traffic heading west, must exit at Ontario

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 84 are currently closed due to crash near milepost 237, outside of Pendleton, pictured here.

ONTARIO — The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 are now open in eastern Oregon. The eastbound lanes were open around 1:30 p.m. OR 204 and OR 245 are also now open. Both freeways were closed around 9:30 a.m. due to multiple crashes.

The closure was expected to be extended, according to the first release from Oregon Department of Transportation on Tuesday morning.

The eastbound lanes were closed from Exit 216 east of Pendleton to La Grande at Exit 265. The westbound lanes were closed between Baker City Exit 302 and Exit 216.

Commercial trucks heading west, had to exit the freeway in Ontario at Exit 374, as there was limited truck parking in Baker City and La Grande.

OR 204 (Tollgate Highway) and OR 245 were also closed to all but local residents, as those routes are not viable detours during freeway closures.

Motorists are urged to check for updated conditions on TripCheck.com or by phoning 511 or (800) 977-6368 in Oregon. Those outside of Oregon, can phone (503) 588-2941.
