PAYETTE — A Payette woman died on Thursday night in a head-on crash on U.S. 95, north of Payette.
According to a news release from Idaho State Police, the crash happened near milepost 72 and the agency responded just after 8 p.m.
During the initial investigation police discovered that Susan Griffin, 73, of Payette, was driving north on the highway in a minivan. At the same time, Richard Young, 33, of Council, was driving south in a semi-tractor hauling two trailers full of lumber.
Police say the vehicles collided head-on, but did not indicate whether someone drifted into the other lane. The crash is still being investigated.
Griffin was not wearing a seatbelt, and died at the scene of the crash.
Young was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.
