VALE — Ninety-nine years almost to the day the Rex Theater hosts another fundraiser for Vale High School. When it opened in 1914 the first performance in the theater building was a play. This was a 1914 fundraiser to buy the Vale High School football team uniforms, as reported by the Malheur Enterprise.
This year, on Oct. 21, the Vale High School English program, in partnership with the Drexel Foundation shall have another Vale High School fundraising event. The world renowned Oregon Shakespeare Company shall perform at the Rex Theater. The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $5 for adults, which will be presold for this event at the Vale High School office.

“I love the symmetry, almost 100 years later we are doing a similar Vale High School fundraising event. This is very exciting to have a world famous theater company do a performance at the Rex Theater,” said Sandijean Fuson, president of the Drexel Foundation.
The program is part of Oregon Shakespeare Company’s Rural Outreach program and in partnership with many other local nonprofits, the school, FuMac Inc., FAVE and the Drexel Foundation.
Mrs. Fuller, Vale High School English instructor is responsible for bring this program to our area. It is a three year program. The goal of this performance is for adults to bring their families to enjoy a real “live theater experience” event. The Oregon Shakespeare company shall also be performing for the students at assemblies during school on Oct. 21 and 22.
The teaching artists Jonathan Dyrud, Mandie Jenson and Rafael Untalan prepared two programs: an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ and a combination program they’ve entitled ‘You Belong With Me,’ featuring scenes from Edmond Rostands’s Cyrano de Bergerac, Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, and Chekov’s The Proposal.
