Nov. 14, 1911-Sept. 25, 2012

LB Fergusson, 100, Nyssa formerly of Vale, passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2012 at the home of his niece Carrie and Mike Petterson, where he has lived for the last 12 years.  He passed away with loved ones holding his hands.

LB was born to Nora and Bob Ferguson on Nov. 14, 1911 in Meeker, Colorado.  He was one of eight children.   The family moved numerous times during his childhood.  Most of the family moved to Vale in 1937.  They made a very nice place from sagebrush covered land they purchased.  They raised dairy and beef cattle and in the 1960’s they added a few thoroughbred horses which was the dream of his dad’s who was a horse trainer and a jockey.

He lived and worked alongside his brother Doy Ferguson on their farm.  He spent four years in the Army during WW II where he played trumpet, banjo and harmonica.    LB  also did an occasional softshoe for the servicemen.  He loved playing reveille for the officers in the morning.

After the war he returned home to work the farm with his brother Doy in Vale.

In 1977 LB sold his half of the farm to Doy to marry an old flame, Norma Knutson.  They spent four wonderful years together before Norma passed away.

He then married Marie Lawson in 1983 and they had 12 years together before she passed away in 1999.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doy and Max, sisters Gala Hansen, Una Ferguson and Arr O’Connell.

He is survived by his sisters Marcelle O’Connell and Wilrose Drake, Niece Carrie Petterson, children and grandchildren from his wives Norma and Marie.

LB was a gentle soul who was loved by everyone who knew him.  His love of music was a big part of all our lives.  He was always making music with everyday items, like spoons, a saw, and partially filled glasses and would sing even up to his last days.   He was a very active man who at the age 100 still did his exercises and rode a stationary bike until just a few weeks ago.  He always had a good story to tell or a memory to share.  He loved horse racing, boxing and most of all baseball.

A memorial service will be held at the Petterson ranch on Friday September 28, 2012 at 2 pm.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
