June Savage Hartley
Aug. 23, 1929-Oct. 10, 2013
Nyssa—June Savage Hartley, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and patriot passed away in her home and returned to her Father in Heaven on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
June was born August 23, 1929 in Chiloquin, Oregon to William Damon Savage and Gwendolyn Batty Savage, the fifth of eight children. As a young child, June moved with her family to the Treasure Valley area. She attended school in Nyssa, graduating from Nyssa High in 1947.
June and Mark E. Hartley, her high school sweetheart, were married on September 18, 1949 (solemnized September 8, 1970 in the Idaho Falls Temple). They were blessed with three children: Susan Lynn, Mark Dee and Samuel Elvin. Her young adult years were filled with homemaking, motherhood, and helping her partner, Mark, manage the family farm and feedlot. In the spring of 1953, June joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
June had a tremendous testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ which she loved to share with others. She dedicated time to traditional missionary work, although her true passion was to touch others hearts while in casual conversation. She also had a beautiful smile that was constant. Her quick wit and light sense of humor will be greatly missed.
After her children were raised, June enjoyed spending her time volunteering and serving the Republican party on the local, state and national levels. She considered herself a stalwart, grass roots politician and was proud to be a lifetime Oregonian as well as having a solid, four generation Oregonian Republican Heritage. She believed in the principles of traditional family values; in the great free enterprise system; and in peace through strength. June wanted to be a force for good and will be missed in many circles.
June also loved music and performing. Many marriages, funerals, and community events were graced with her beautiful lyric voice.
