John Spaulding

April 11, 1939-Oct. 14, 2013


John Elwin Spaulding 74, Weiser, passed away October 14, 2013 in Indian Valley, Idaho.

John was born April 11, 1939 at New London, Wisconsin to Willard and Retta Spaulding,  He spent many hours at the family farm in Hancock, WI.  He reached Eagle scout and was a member of the rifle club.  He won awards from the NRA, and other organizations.  He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1957.  He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard upon graduation.  Tour of duty included Hawaii, Japan and Greenland.  In 1963 he married Colleen Hodges and they had two children, Tim and Jeanine.  In 1965 John joined the International Union of Operating Engineers.

John has been a cowboy, a logger, a rancher, a veterinary student, a heavy equipment operator, and most recently an auctioneer and was a member of the Idaho Association of Professional Auctioneers.  John’s career made it possible for the family to get to know the entire state of Idaho, Western Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Eastern Oregon, Washington and Nevada.  “I don’t think there is a place one can walk into in the state of Idaho that John doesn’t know someone.”

The Spaulding family has lived over 50 years in the Council and Weiser Valleys.  John is survived by his wife, son, Tim Spaulding of Spokane, Wa., Daughter, Jeanine (Darren) Coriell of Indian Valley, and two grandchildren, David and Holly Coriell, brother, Bill Spaulding (Judy) of Sacramento CA, sister, Lu Bardill, of Port Charlotte FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00 am at Thomason Funeral Home in Weiser.  Pot luck to follow at the Weiser Christian Church.  Donations may be made to your favorite charity.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
