Jay was born in Sedro Wooley, Washington on October 28, 1962. He was two years old when his family moved to Oregon, settling in Nyssa, Oregon. Jay grew up on the family farm and eventually purchased that same property where he spent his childhood and has lived there his entire life.  He graduated from Nyssa High School in 1980 and continued on with his work at the Amalgamated Sugar Company working and advancing to the position of Assistant Agriculture Repair Foreman.

Jay followed in his father’s footsteps as a dedicated employee for the Amalgamated Sugar Company for more than 32 years. Jay was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He often enjoyed these times with his daughters, friends and family. He was a very family oriented father & grandfather with two beautiful girls and three wonderful grandchildren who made him a “big kid” and filled his life with great joy.

Jay was married in 1984 and later divorced in 1994 from Mary Emma Leos (Clark).

Jay leaves behind his Mother, Glenda Gayle Barnes; his 2 sisters, Connie M. Hanson and Sharon A. Patrick; his two children and their families, Ashley Marie Hicks and her husband, Chance Jarred Hicks. Stephanie Ann Barnes and her partner, Miguel Gallegos. Jay also leaves behind his 3 grandchildren Brogan M. Hicks, Miguel A. Gallegos  and Zoee M. Gallegos; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.

Jay is preceded in death by his father, Carl Clayton Barnes (March 24, 1932 -April 6, 2007): his Grandparents; A.C & Marvene Barnes: Keith & Laura Moss.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the college funds of Jay’s grandchildren at any local Wells Fargo Bank branch. The family of Jay C. Barnes wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support through this most difficult of times. Our prayers and blessings go out to everyone’s families. ”Time together is a precious gift, please don’t miss a moment of that gift with each other.”
