Fruitland—Friends and family members are banding together for local athlete Jay Sutton, who will undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor, by hosting a fundraiser — the Buzz Cut-A-Palooza — to raise money for Sutton.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 7:30 p.m Monday at the Fruitland High School gym with the Salon Savvy team doing the cutting.
Each cut will cost a minimum of $50, but individuals can raise as much money as they would like, or they can sponsor someone to get buzzed.
The funds from this event will aid the family with deductible, travel, lodging, food and other incidentals.
Fruitland baseball coach Russ Wright said the Suttons are like family in the Fruitland community.
“I think we are going to have an outpouring of people who will come forward and get that nice, tight hair cut, as well as, others who will just come down to give what they can for Jay and his family, Wright said
One Fruitland resident, Theresa Crim has already fronted a challenge to the Treasure Valley communities. Crim said that if someone or a group of people will put up a $1,000 she will get her hair buzzed off to support the Suttons.
“The Suttons have been friends of ours since before Jay was born, and I know they would do the same for us,” Crim said. “The last count has more than $1,800 raised for this challenge, so I guess it’s a go.”
This fundraiser not only aids the family, but it also shows solidarity for Sutton by sharing in his doctor-mandated hairstyle.
“The people who are behind the scenes that are making the phone calls have really done a great job for this cause,” Wright said.
