Festival of Trees on tap
ONTARIO
Ontario’s Festival of Trees will be held Wednesday and Nov. 27 through Nov. 29 at the Holiday Inn - Ontario, 1249 Tapadera Ave., Ontario. A free grand opening will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. The festival will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Nov. 29 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. Admission costs $1, $.50 for children 10 and younger. Santa will be at the event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 28. The event benefits Meals on Wheels and Help Them To Hope. Cinnamon rolls will be available for purchase, and a raffle will be held.
‘Just Jesus’ rally slated

A “Just Jesus” rally — praise and worship of Jesus with no preaching, no doctrine and no denomination — will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 in the auditorium at the Olde School Community Center, 500 S.W. Nyssa Senior Center events

Gospel music will be performed from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Nyssa Senior Center, 316 Good Ave., Nyssa.
There will be a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 at the center.
The center will have a dance from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 5. The cost is $4. Participants should bring a finger food for the halftime intermission.
The center will meet at 11 a.m. Dec. 9, with a potluck to follow at noon. There will be no Dec. 23 meeting. Dues for 2010 are $5 and are due at the meeting.

Veterans Monument ready to view

The Veterans Monument in front of Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario, was dedicated Nov. 7. Further work, such as the sand-blasting of the emblems of each of the branches of service onto the monument, is now dependent on good weather. Larry Stitzel is in the process of creating a book with pictures detailing the progress of the monument, which will also mention people and organizations who have helped, including Graphic Impressions, B&B Printing, Calibur Graphics, Anderson Excavating, Clearwater Concrete, Joe Kinney, Horizon Machine, Schofield Design, Roadrunner Towing, Sterling Bank, the Argus Observer, KSRV “The Bull,” Engraved Expressions LLC and the workers on the shovels. The Veterans Monument Committee also wished to urge veterans who are in need of assistance attaining benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs to contact Malheur County Veterans Service Officer Bill Thomson, (541) 889-6649.

A Christmas tree lighting is scheduled to take place at dusk Dec. 5 near the flag pole at Lions Park. Kinney & Keele Hardware has donated lights, but the tree-lighting committee is still seeking more light donations, as well as a star to be placed at the top of the tree.

Mobility Management Program planned

The Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living is offering a free Mobility Management Program to seniors and people with disabilities with mobility needs. EOCIL’s independent living specialist assists participants in overcoming barriers that prevent one from riding the bus.
