Veterans Monument ready to view
ONTARIO
The Veterans Monument in front of Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario, was dedicated Nov. 7. Further work, such as the sand-blasting of the emblems of each of the branches of service onto the monument, is now dependent on good weather. Larry Stitzel is in the process of creating a book with pictures detailing the progress of the monument, which will also mention people and organizations who have helped, including Graphic Impressions, B&B Printing, Calibur Graphics, Anderson Excavating, Clearwater Concrete, Joe Kinney, Horizon Machine, Schofield Design, Roadrunner Towing, Sterling Bank, the Argus Observer, KSRV “The Bull,” Engraved Expressions LLC and the workers on the shovels. The Veterans Monument Committee also wished to urge veterans who are in need of assistance attaining benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs to contact Malheur County Veterans Service Officer Bill Thomson, (541) 889-6649.
College night planned

A Christmas tree lighting is scheduled to take place at dusk Dec. 5 near the flag pole at Lions Park. Kinney & Keele Hardware has donated lights, but the tree-lighting committee is still seeking more light donations, as well as a star to be placed at the top of the tree.

Mobility Management Program planned

The Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living is offering a free Mobility Management Program to seniors and people with disabilities with mobility needs. EOCIL’s independent living specialist assists participants in overcoming barriers that prevent one from riding the bus.

Turkey shoot planned

A turkey shoot will start with the first flight at 9 a.m. and the second flight at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 7U Hunting Ranch and Sporting Clays in Vale. Four-person teams will cost $200 per team. There will be 14 stations with 100 rounds to be shot. Prizes will be given to first-, second- and third-place teams and the high score overall.

The 28th annual Christmas bazaar will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 27 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Boulevard Grange, south of Ontario on Oregon Highway 201. There will be 30 vendors with many hand-made items. The Grange ladies will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, chili, homemade pies and drinks.
