TVCC men’s soccer team advances



Vancouver, Wash. —The Treasure Valley Community College men’s soccer team advanced to the second round of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges soccer championships with a 4-2 victory over Clark College Wednesday in Vancouver.

In a contest that pitted the No. 2-ranked Clark College (11-5) against the No. 3-ranked TVCC (9-5), the Chukars pounded in two goals in the first half of play to set the tone.

The first goal came at the 41st minute when Christian Salgado beat the Clark goalkeeper.

Then, just three minutes later, Daimon Nelson fired off a goal-scoring shot.

In the second half of the contest, TVCC extended its lead to 3-0 when JJ Barrosso got in on the scoring.

Clark College answered with back-to -back goals, the first in the 72nd minute and the second goal in the 74th minute to make it a one goal game at 3-2.

TVCC put the game away late with its final goal at the 79th minute by Ruben Belman.

With the win, the Chukars will take on Bellevue (11-4), who had a first-round bye.

In other tournament action, Peninsula defeated Edmonds 3-2. Peninsula will next face Chemeketa.

Highline knocked off Shoreline 4-2 and will match up with Walla Walla for its next game.

Spokane beat Pierce 3-1 and will next take on Whatcom.

All second round games will be played Saturday at the home of the higher seed.

The Chukars lost to Bellevue 2-0 on Sept. 5
